INCISIONAL HERNIA REPAIR – PERSONAL EXPERIENCE AND ANATOMICAL CONSIDERATIONS (Abstract): Incisional hernias represent a relatively frequent occurrence after abdominal surgery and cause serious morbidity with important socio-economic effects and implications on patient lifestyle. Although many hernias become evident early, other may not be noted until several years after the index surgery. Between May 2011 and June 2014 we studied the cases of 197 patients that suffered interventions performed by a single team for different incisional hernias in the General Surgery Clinic of “Prof. Dr. Agrippa Ionescu” Emergency Hospital. All patients received mesh repairs. We studied the position and measured the size of the fascial defect, the hernia sac, comorbidities, mean hospital stay and postoperative complications. The mesh repair offers the best solution providing a tension-free repair, open and laparoscopic mesh techniques being encouraging. Anatomical considerations are discussed.
