FOETAL ABDOMINAL ABNORMALITIES (Abstract): Foetal anomalies are deviations from normal embryonic development, characterized by the existence of alterations in the genetic material, morphological abnormalities of different viscera or organ’s systems, or changes in body chemistry. A developmental defect of the foetus may have a moderate impact or a major one, when the quality of life is damaged. Anterior abdominal wall deficiency are among the most common foetal abnormalities, in their case ultrasound examination allowing an early diagnosis that can be done since the 14 weeks of amenorrhea. Being detected relatively early, often before fetal viability, allow different options for continuing pregnancy and postnatal treatment. As isolated issues may benefit from postnatal surgical correction, but often can be associated with other anomalies or can be a sign of a chromosomal abnormality. The main closure abnormalities of the anterior abdominal wall are gastroschisis and omphalocele, with a relatively close frequency, these problems can be easily distinguished by their very characteristic ultrasound semiology.
