THE IMPACT OF WILLIS ARTERIAL CIRCLE VARIANTS IN CEREBRO-VASCULAR DISEASE (Abstract): The circle of Willis is the main flow shift dispositive situated at the brain base. Its main role is to maintain a steady blood supply to all cortical areas. Its asymmetry correlates with alterations in cerebral hemodynamics and contribute to ischemic disease. In this study we have assessed the Willis polygon variants in general population and also in patient with acute ischemic disease and also the modification of brain hemodynamic parameters. As method of investigation we have used the advantages of magnetic resonance imaging with special sequences: 3D TOF, DWI and PWI. We concluded that Circle of Willis abnormality resulted in impairment of the compensatory mechanisms and may predispose individuals to ischemic lesions and stroke in case of change of the blood flow in one of the three main suppliers.
