TERATOGENIC ASPECTS OF CLEFT LIP AND CLEFT PALATE (Abstract): The cleft lip, also called cheiloschisis and the cleft palate, known as palatoschisis, are some of the most frequent congenital malformations that occur in humans. Our study focuses on the effects that teratogens such as retinoic acid have on orofacial clefting in rodents. The beneficial effect of the B vitamins and of the magnesium acexamate and the negative effect of nickel were also investigated in association with the retinoic acid.
