CAUSES OF CONVERSION IN LAPAROSCOPIC CHOLECYSTECTOMY. ANALYSIS ON 182 CASES (Abstract)>The surgeon should be familiar with the causes of conversion, the more so as, before surgery, he has to inform the patient about this contingency. Despite the fact that at first sight conversion seems a surgical failure, it is an act of wisdom sparing both the surgeon and especially the patient from dangerous incidents that might result from the desire to complete, by all means, the surgical intervention laparoscopically. Of the 4555 laparoscopic cholecystectomies performed at the Ist General Surgery Clinic of Iasi “Sf. Spiridon” Hospital in the interval 2004 2008, 182 cases required conversion (deliberate or of necessity). A 4% conversion rate is quite good as compared to data reported by other authors.
