SMALL BOWEL STROMAL TUMOR. CASE REPORT AND REVIEW OF THE LITERATURE (Abstract): Small bowel tumors are rare and clinically silent for long period of time. The diagnosis of these tumors is a challenge for every physician. The diagnosis is rarely documented preoperatively. We describe a 42 year old man admitted in our clinic for abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting. After laparotomy we found one tumor in the ileum. We performed an enterectomy with jejunal-jejunal anastomosis. Histologically the diagnosis was stromal intestinal tumor. Staining for CD-117 (c-kit) was positive. Postoperatively the patient’s outcome was good, with no relapses after six months. Conclusions: Small bowel tumors are difficult to diagnosed. The symptoms are non-specific. Surgical resection associated with lymphadenectomy is the treatment of choice.
