THE ORIGIN, THE ASPECT AND THE DISTRIBUTION OF THE POSTERIOR RENAL SEGMENT (Abstract): We assessed the origin of the artery for the posterior renal segment on 492 cases, finding that its origin is most often as terminal branch of the renal artery trunk. Other possible origins were: directly from the aorta, as supplementary renal artery, the anterior terminal branch of the renal artery. Multiple arteries (2 4 arterial branches) for the posterior renal segment, originating only from the anterior renal branches, superior and inferior, were encountered in 2.44% of cases. The supplied territory of the artery of the posterior renal segment was studied on 484 cases, finding that the most frequently, in 30.78% of cases, the artery supplied the whole posterior part of the kidney while for the supply of the renal poles contributed the anterior arteries of the superior and inferior renal segments. The supply only of the posterior part of the kidney was encountered in only 27.89% of cases, without the supply of the inferior renal pole in 23.14% of cases and without the supply of the superior renal pole in 18.18% of cases. Among the 492, in 11.99% of the cases we describe symmetry of the two arteries, anterior and posterior. Because of this model is encountered more frequently in sheep, we called it ”sheep type”.
