SPECIFICATIONS ON THE ORIGIN OF THE INFERIOR MESENTERIC ARTERY IN RELATION WITH THE VERTEBRAL COLUMN, THE SUPRAJACENT AORTIC BRANCHES AND THE TERMINAL BIFURCATION OF THE AORTA (Abstract): Our study was performed on cases represented by simple abdominal aortic angiography and angio CT's. We assessed: the origin of inferior mesenteric artery in relation with the vertebral column and also with the renal arteries, superior mesenteric artery, celiac trunk and terminal bifurcation of the abdominal aorta. In relation to the vertebral column the inferior mesenteric artery origin was found between the upper half of L2 vertebra and the lower border of L4 vertebra. Depending on the origin of the inferior mesenteric artery in relation to the vertebral column and suprajacent arterial branches, we described a high origin and a low origin. The inferior mesenteric artery origin in relation to the origin of right renal artery was assessed in 54 cases. The distance between the origin of the inferior mesenteric artery and the celiac trunk origin was measured on 58 cases. The most accurate measurements are made using CT evaluation on living subjects and being performed electronically.
