      MANDIBULAR GEOMETRY OF NIGERIAN SKULLS: MEDICO-LEGAL AND SURGICAL RELEVANCE (Abstract): Background: Knowledge of the normal dimensions and local anatomy of gnathion –gonion pogonion-gnathion, gonion-gonion is relevant to cosmetic surgeons and forensic expert as identifying a deceased is the commonest problem facing forensic anthropologists. This study has characterized the anthropometry of gnathion –gonion.,gonion-gonion, pogonion-gnathion. Materials & Methods: Gnathion –gonion, gonion-gonion and pogonion-gnathion of 100 normal mandibular bones of Nigerians 78 males and 22 females skulls were measured using automatic digital calipers. Mean, geometric mean, maximum, minimum, coefficient of variation,linear regression, correlation were computed with graph pad prism version 5.03. Results: .There was evidence of sexual dimorphism,, male parameters were significantly higher than female p<0.05. The male/female ratios for the mean measurements were greater than unity, indicating that the male crania were larger in all linear dimensions than female crania. The calculated sexual dimorphism ratios of Gnathion-gonion was 1.16 while, Pogonion-gnathion and Gonion-gonion was 1.09 each. Conclusion: This study provides baseline information that may be helpful to surgeons and forensic experts.
