EXTERNAL ROTATION MOVEMENT EVALUATION COMPLEMENT TO THE ABDUCTION – ELEVATION MOVEMENT OF THE SCAPULOHUMERAL JOINT (Abstract): The external rotation of the arm is a classic movement described as necessary for making circumduction possible which amplifies the pronation supination movement of the hand. We have made a radiographic experiment in which we asked the subjects to perform the abduction elevation movement with the upper limb in forced internal rotation. All the subjects have been x-rayed in dynamic using a bit rate of 5 frames/sec. The collected data where processed mathematically. The internal rotation modifies the dynamic sectorial movement of the humerus, scapula and the shoulder’s overall movement. The general mobilization amplitude of the two studied components (humeral axis and scapular spine axis) in their absolute average value is for the studied cases: angle variation of the humerus axis is 126,220° and angle variation of the scapular spinal axis is 66,140°. The humeral external rotation increases the abduction-elevation amplitude by approximately 30° and is the reason why we consider that in the cinematic chain of the shoulder the described movement should be abduction-elevation-external rotation.
