DETERMINATION OF SEX DISCRIMINATION BY ANALYZING THE FUNCTION OF BRAIN SIZE (Abstract): The purpose of this paper is to verify if the established statistical models based on other Caucasoid populations are applicable to Romanian skulls with high accuracy, and if not, to develop new formulae. A sample of 81 male and 75 female skulls with known identity was analized, being performed twenty-six cranial measurements. The sex of each specimen was calculated by using the appropriate discriminant function formulae developed on American, Finnish, Cretan and South African white samples and then compared to the actual sex of the Romanians sample using Pearson’s ÷2 test and Crosstabs functions of SPSS program. Results indicate that not all „borrowed” formulae are useful for sex determination, but, after modification of the sectioning point, majority tested functions offer similar results as in original study and, thus, the development of specific formulae is not necessary.
